our story
Claudia Newman began teaching dance in Maine during the 1950’s. She also taught in Germany while her husband was stationed in the Army. After settling home in the Central Michigan area, she began instructing classes at Farwell and Harrison High Schools. In 1960, Mrs. Newman founded the Newman School of Dance in Clare, Michigan. The studio was sold to Jacqueline Newman Harrison in the fall of 2013. Mrs. Newman continues to teach a variety of classes at the Newman School of Dance and most enjoys having her great-grandchildren as students!
The Newman School of Dance offers beginner to advanced dance classes in Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Acrobatic, Pom and Musical Theatre.

Dancers need to have the required shoe and dancewear for their class. The price ranges depend on the class your child is enrolled in.
Recital fee, including costume and all accessories, recital performance digital download and live action stage photos typically range from $80-100.
Students may also wish to purchase individual and class recital photo packages.
If your dancer has to miss a class, please contact the studio office. The office staff will relay the information to the instructors. There are no refunds for missed classes. Contact the office for make up class options.

We are happy to offer suggestions that best meet the needs of your dancer. We frequently recommend a dancer stay at the same level for multiple years. This ensures a dancer develops and retains the skillset at in each syllabus.
Regular season classes typically begin the week after labor day.
Recital is typically scheduled for mid-late April.
